I joined SMP in 1993 as a Technical Sales Representative involved in the Mining, Industrial and Heavy Engineering sectors. In my over 20-year tenure at the company, I have worked through all the departments, risen to Sales Manager, Sales Director and took over the helm as Managing Director in 2004. I embrace life to the fullest by being involved in Adventure Riding on both sorts of two wheels and am passionate about my family, people, our industry and the various paths we are pursuing with our joint strategies within our incredibly diverse group of companies. On the odd occasion, I have been known to MC an event or two and facilitate a bit of entertainment for various charities and organisations.

Working my way up through an Insurance Brokerage and a Dutch Coal company, I was fortunate to have been given opportunities to work in all departments and was able to gain my MBA during this time. I held various financial roles in the mining company’s subsidiaries, and was ultimately appointed Group Financial Manager.

In 2004 I made the decision to move away from corporate and look for opportunities elsewhere, joining SMP in 2005 as a shareholder and Financial Director. When my heads not down pursuing our group objectives, you’ll find me either playing with my family, on the golf course or riding my Adventure Bike along a rural jeep track somewhere.

A short computer programming course set me on my path towards a process driven mentality and a passion for effective data flow. Having had various positions in this field, my most memorable one was in China operating at ground level and assisting with communication and logistics between the Chinese factory and mother company in Cape Town. As General Manager of SMP my main role has been the ongoing procurement and planning of products on an MRP system internally modified to fit our requirements. If not buried in a spreadsheet, I’ll either be singing my heart out behind a microphone or racing across a lagoon on my kiteboard.
